Seton Hill continued their PSAC West series as they traveled to UPJ for the final two games of their four game set.
UPJ scored a pair of unearned runs in the seventh inning as they walked off the Griffins 2-1 in game one. Seton Hill rallied with three runs in the seventh of game two for a 4-2 win to split the doubleheader. SHU is now 23-7 overall and 9-3 in the west.
In game one, the Griffins
Ian Korn and UPJ's Ben Tomb met in a pitchers dual, with neither team being able to get on the board until the fourth inning.
The Griffins got on board first in the top of the fourth inning.
Jack Whalen singled to lead off the inning. He moved to second on a ground out and then third on a passed ball.
Jakob Haynes walked to put runners on first and third with two outs.
Brady McGuire then reached on an error with Whalen scoring as the Griffins took a 1-0 lead.
UPJ then took advantage of a pair of Griffin errors in the seventh inning as they scored a pair of runs to defeat the Griffins. After an out, UPJ reached on an error and then used back to back singles to tie the game at one. SHU cut down the winning run on a ground out but the Mountain Cats used a walk off single to earn the win.
Ian Korn was the hard luck loser, suffering his first loss of the season. Korn did not allow an earned run, giving up 5 hits and striking out 6.
The Mountain Cats took a 2-0 lead over the Griffins in the bottom of the first inning of game two. SHU cut the lead in half in the top of the third inning.
Michael Gregos singled to lead off the inning and moved to second when Jordan Fiedor was hit by a pitch. After an out both stole a bag. Gregos scored on a sacrifice fly from
Owen Henne.
The game stayed at 2-1 until the top of the seventh.
Brady McGuire singled to open the inning. With two outs, Gregos walked and Fiedor was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Whalen drew a bases loaded walk to tie the game at two. Henne then singled up the middle to give SHU a 4-2 lead.
Henne drove in three of the four Griffin runs.
Evan Rossi and
Zach Herb combined for 3.2 innings of scoreless relief to earn the win and the save.
The Griffins will host Fairmont State in a non conference matchup on Wednesday afternoon in Greensburg.
