Seton Hill took a break from PSAC West play as they hosted Point Park in a non conference matchup on Tuesday afternoon in Greensburg.
Point Park took an early 8-0 lead and defeated the Griffins by the score of 10-6. SHU drops to 20-6 overall while Point Park improves to 20-8.
Point Park took a 1-0 lead over the Griffins with a leadoff homer in the top of the second inning. The Pioneers sent 13 hitters to the plate in the third inning as they scored seven times to take an 8-0 lead over the Griffins.
The Griffins got half of those runs back in the sixth inning.
Brady McGuire singled to start the inning. After two outs,
Max Mandler singled and
Joe Fiedor drew a walk to load the bases.
Mark Black then tripled to center field to clear the bases and cut the lead to 8-3.
Austyn Winkleblech followed with a single and the Griffins trailed 8-4.
SHU continued to cut into the lead in the seventh. After an out, McGuire drew a walk. He stole second and scored on a
Colin Ahr single. Ahr stole second and later scored on a
Max Mandler single as the Griffins cut the lead to 8-6.
Point Park added a pair of insurance runs in the eighth as they increased their lead to 10-6.
Henne, McGuire and
Max Mandler each had two hits for the Griffins.
The Griffins will host Pitt Johnstown in the first doubleheader of a four game PSAC West set on Friday afternoon in Greensburg.
