The Griffin men's lacrosse team opened Great Midwest Athletic Conference play by hosting Lake Erie in the Semifinals on Wednesday afternoon.
SHU jumped out to a 10-3 halftime lead and cruised to a 15-5 victory, SHU is now 11-5 on the season. Â
Andy Davis and
Colin Socker scored back to back for the Griffins as they took an early 2-0 lead. The Storm cut the lead in half with a goal at the ten minute mark. SHU then scored the final four goals of the quarter as they built a 6-1 lead.Â
Peyton Gensler scored a pair and
Braedan Lockyer and
Michael Coleman added one. Â
Lake Erie opened the scoring seven minutes into the second quarter. SHU responded with a pair in 43 seconds to take a 8-2 lead.Â
Wade Brunelle and Gensler scored the goals. After a Storm goal, Davis and Gensler scored in the final 1:30 to give SHU a 10-3 halftime lead. Â
The third quarter was low scoring with each team tallying just one goal. Lockyer scored for the Griffins. Â
SHU scored three times in the first 1:37 of the fourth quarter to put the game away. Gensler, Demitri Yerou and
Mark Strunk scored for SHU. Davis tallied the last Griffin goal of the game. Â
Gensler led the attack with five goals and an assist. Davis scored three times. Lockyer added two goals and an assist. Brunelle scored a goal and added two assists.Â
Will Cody made eight saves in the win. Â
SHU will now play for the G-MAC title on Saturday at 1 PM against the winner of the Mercyhurst/Walsh contest. Â
