Men's Lax Drops G-MAC Battle with Mercyhurst

Seton Hill and Mercyhurst met in a top 15 battle in an important G-MAC and North Region battle on Saturday afternoon.  

#15 Mercyhurst held off a late Griffin rally as they defeated the Griffins 13-12.  SHU falls to 6-3 overall and 3-1 in the G-MAC while Mercyhurst improves to 6-3 and 3-0 in the G-MAC.  

The Lakers jumped out to a 3-1 lead over the Griffins after the first quarter of action.  Demitri Yerou scored the lone Griffin goal at the 5:55 mark of the quarter.  

Mercyhurst scored the first two goals of the second quarter as they increased their lead to 5-1 with two goals in the first minute of the quarter.  Nate Herbster scored at the nine minute mark and Wade Brunelle added a goal with 1:22 to play in the half to cut the Lakers lead to 5-3. 

It was a high scoring third quarter as the Lakers outscored the Griffins 6-5.  Mercyhurst opened with a pair before Carter Green scored to cut the lead to 7-4 with 12:50 to play.  The Lakers answered with two more before Brunelle and Braedan Lockyer scored a minute apart to trim the lead to 9-6 with 6:12 to play.  After a Laker goal, Colin Socker scored a pair and the Griffins trailed just 10-8 with 3:55 left.  The Lakers scored the final goal of the quarter to take a 11-8 lead into the fourth.  

Kage Williams and Lockyer scored in the first four minutes of the fourth quarter as SHU trimmed the lead to 11-10.  The Lakers answered with a pair to increase their lead to 13-10.  Green and Socker scored twelve seconds apart to cut the lead to 13-12 with two minutes to play.  

Socker led the offense with three goals.  Green, Brunelle and Lockyer added a pair.

SHU will host Tiffin on Tuesday afternoon.
