Fourth Quarter Carries Griffins to Senior Day Win

Seton Hill hosted Lake Erie on Saturday afternoon at DSG Field in Greensburg as they honored seven seniors prior to the G-MAC Contest.

SHU scored the first five goals in the fourth quarter as they were able to pull away for a 15-10 victory over the Storm.  SHU is now 6-2 overall and 3-0 in the G-MAC.  

Lake Erie opened the scoring but the Griffins responded with the next five as they took a 5-1 lead with 7:48 to play in the first.  Peyton Gensler scored back to back goals less than a minute a part to put the Griffins in front 2-1.  Carter Green, Andy Davis and Wade Brunelle added goals as SHU built the 5-1 lead.  The Storm then scored three of the next four to trim the lead to 6-4 at the end of the quarter.  Green scored the one SHU goal in the Storm run.  

The second quarter was low scoring as the Griffins outscored the Storm 2-1.  Nate Herbster and Vincent Cogliandro scored the SHU goals in the second.  

The Storm scored the first two goals of the third quarter as they cut the Griffin lead to 8-7 with 10:23 left.  Gensler and Demitri Yerou scored two give the Griffins a 10-7 lead with 5:28 to play.  The Storm scored the final two goals of the quarter as they trailed 10-9 entering the fourth.  

Gensler and Herbster scored in the first two minutes of the fourth quarter as the Griffins extended their lead to 12-9.  Brunelle added two more and Cogliandro added the final SHU goal as the Griffins stayed unbeaten in conference play.

SHU outshot the Storm 48-34.  The Griffins won 20 of the 29 faceoffs in the contest.  SHU held a 36-21 advantage in ground balls.

Gensler paced the offense with four goals.  Brunelle tossed in three.  Cogliandro added two goals and an assist.  Herbster and Green each scored twice.  Yerou added a goal and two assists.  Cullen Kerchner won 11 of 14 faceoffs.  Will Cody made eight saves including five in the fourth quarter.

SHU will travel to Mercyhurst next Saturday for an important G-MAC contest.
