Seton Hill continued G-MAC play on Tuesday afternoon with a matchup in Wheeling, WV against the Cardinals.
After a slow first quarter, the Griffins jumped on the Cardinals with an 8-1 second quarter in route to a 20-6 victory. SHU is now 5-2 overall and 2-0 in the G-MAC.
Wheeling opened the scoring with a goal less than two minutes into the contest. SHU answered back with two goals from
Carter Green and
Benjamin Rohan as they took a 2-1 lead with 11:19 to play. The Cardinals scored the final two goals of the quarter to take a 3-2 lead over the Griffins.
The second quarter was all Seton Hill as they outscored Wheeling 8-1. SHU got goals from
Braedan Lockyer,
Kaden Granberg and
Wade Brunelle in the first four minutes of the quarter to take a 5-3 lead. Wheeling cut the lead back to one with a goal at the eleven minute mark. SHU then responded with five straight in the final ten minutes of the quarter to take a 10-4 halftime lead.
Peyton Gensler, Brunelle, Green and
Connor Zostant scored over a three minute stretch to extend the lead to 9-4. Lockyer scored with 12 seconds left in the half.
The Griffins continued their roll in the third quarter as they scored all six goals.
Demetri Yerou opened the scoring at the 12:56 mark. SHU then scored four times in less than three minutes to build a 15-4 lead.
Colin Socker opened the run followed by two Green goals and one from Brunelle. Brunelle scored less than two minutes later as SHU took a 16-4 lead into the fourth quarter.
Granberg, Lockyer and Brunelle scored to open the fourth quarter as SHU built an 19-4 lead.
Blake Morrow scored the final goal for the Griffins.
The Griffins outshot the Cards 63-27 and held a 42-16 advantage in shots on goal. SHU won 21 of 28 faceoffs.
Brunelle led the offense with five goals and an assist. Green finished with four goals. Lockyer added three goals and two assists. Granberg scored twice. Gensler scored one and added three assists while Zostant and Socker had a goal and two assists.
Will Cody made 10 saves.
SHU will return home on Saturday as they host Lake Erie at 1 PM for Senior Day.
