Fast Start Not Enough in Loss to #9 Mercy

The Griffin men's lacrosse team hosted #9 Mercy in an important North Region battle at DSG Field in Greensburg on Sunday afternoon.  

Seton Hill jumped out to a 4-1 lead after the first quarter but the Mavs outscored the Griffins 12-7 over the final three quarters for a 13-11 win.  SHU is now 3-2 overall while Mercy improves to 5-1.  

Mercy scored less than a minute into the contest as they took a 1-0 lead.  The Griffins responded with four straight to take a 4-1 lead.  Nate Herbster scored at the 12:20 mark to tie the game at one.  Braedan Lockyer scored a man up goal to put the Griffins up 2-1 with 7:55 to play.  Peyton Gensler and Carter Green scored 15 seconds a part to put the Griffins in front 4-1.  

The Mavs scored twice in the first minute and a half to trim the lead to 4-3 early in the second.  Gensler scored a man up goal with 12:49 to play in the half a 5-3 lead.  Mercy answered with the next two to tie the score at five.  Demitri Yerou scored with 4:16 to play to put the Griffins back in front 6-5.  Connor Zostant answered a Mercy goal with 1:11 to play before the half to give SHU a 7-6 lead at the break.  

Mercy scored the first two goals of the third quarter to take an 8-7 lead.  SHU answered with three straight over a three minute stretch to take a 10-8 lead.  Andy Davis scored the first goal and Green scored the final two.  The Mavs scored the final two of the third quarter and first of the fourth quarter to retake the lead 11-10.  

Herbster tied the score at 11 with a goal with 9:48 to play but the Mavs scored the final two goals of the contest for the win. 

Green led the Griffins with three goals.  Gensler and Herbster each scored twice.  Gensler added an assist.  Zostant, Yerou and Lockyer each had a goal and assist.  Will Cody made 10 saves in net.

SHU will open G-MAC play next weekend as they host Thomas More.
