The Griffins returned home and opened their three game homestand with a G-MAC contest against Malone on Wednesday afternoon.
Seton Hill jumped out to an 11-1 lead after the first quarter and cruised to a 30-8 victory over the Pioneers. SHU is now 4-3 overall and 2-0 in the G-MAC.
Andy Davis opened the scoring for the Griffins less than three minutes into the contest. Just over a minute later Malone tied the score at one. SHU then scored the final ten goals of the quarter as they took an 11-1 lead.
Blake Morrow and
Peyton Gensler each scored twice with
Demetri Yerou,
Jeremy Sforzo,
Carter Green,
Aidan Brunetti,
Cole Bordo and
Grady Arnold each scoring once.
Kage Williams scored 24 seconds into the second period. Malone answered back with two goals as they cut the SHU lead to 12-3 with 11:06 to play before the half. Vincent Cogiandro and Green scored less than two minutes apart but the Pioneers answered those two goals with two of their own as they trailed 14-5 with 5:31 left in the half. Gensler, Cogliandro and Bordo closed out the scoring in the second quarter as SHU took a 17-5 lead at the break.
Less than a minute into the second half, the Pioneers tallied a goal. Bordo scored before Malone scored to trim the lead to 18-7 with 10:16 to play.
Michael Coleman scored at the 9:05 mark. The Griffins then scored five times in the final five minutes of the quarter on two goals from Morrow and one from
Nate Herbster, Arnold and
Wade Brunelle.
In the fourth, Herbster scored twice with
Colin Socker, Brunelle, Coleman and Bordo scoring the other goals.
The Griffins outshot the Pioneers 80-21 in the contest.
Bordo led SHU with four goals and three assists. Morrow added four goals and an assist. Gensler added three goals and two assists. Hernster finished with three goals. Brunelle had two goals and two assists while Green added two goals and an assist. Arnold, Coleman and Cogliandro each scored twice.
Mark Strunk won 18 of 24 faceoffs.
Zach Pettit won 11 of 17 faceoffs.
Josh Miller made four saves in a quarter of action.
SHU will host Molloy on Saturday in non conference action.
