#4 UIndy Rallies to Down Griffins

Seton Hill made the trip west Saturday for a showdown between Top 20 programs, as the 14th-ranked Griffins went to #4 UIndy. Seton Hill had a big first quarter, but the Hounds rallied with eight goals in the next two periods and came back for an 11-7 victory over the Griffins.

The game could not have had a better start for Seton Hill, as Colin Socker scored 21 seconds into the game to put SHU in front 1-0. The lead doubled to 2-0 just 51 seconds later when Peyton Gensler scored off an assist from Thomas Hanulak. That was the start of an offensive run by Hanulak, as he struck for goals at 11:10 and 8:16 of the first quarter to take the lead to 4-0. Hanulak added his fourth point of the quarter when he assisted on a Zack Estabrooks score with three minutes left and Seton Hill had a 5-0 lead.

Indy started to find their offensive stride with a goal with one minute remaining in the first quarter. The Hounds added their second goal 45 seconds in the next period and then the scoring slowed for a bit. It picked back up late in the half when Indy took advantage of a man-up situation to score with 6:31 to play in the quarter. The Hounds tied the game with two goals late in the quarter just 56 seconds apart and it was a 5-5 score heading into halftime. The first two quarters were as opposite as possible, as SHU held a 13-6 shot advantage in the first period and Indy bounced back with a 12-5 margin in shots in the second.

The second half started on a high note for the Griffins, as they retook the lead when Layne Harich scored off an assist from McGarity Harper for a 6-5 SHU advantage less than three minutes into the period. Another quick outburst from the Hounds midway through the period would give them the lead for good. Indy tied the game with a goal at the 8:35 mark, which was the first of three goals in a span of 3:15 on the clock. Indy extended their lead with another goal with three seconds left in the quarter and they took a 9-6 lead to the final period.

Although Seton Hill would outshoot the Hounds 9-6 in the fourth, they were unable to cut into the deficit. After an early Indy goal in the period, the Griffins made it a 10-7 score when Kage Williams scored with nine minutes to play. Seton Hill was unable to get closer than that, as Indy tacked on one more score with five minutes to play to finish off their 11-7 win.

Hanulak's first-half outburst gave him four points for the afternoon with two goals and two assists. Posting a team-high five ground balls was O.J. Morris, who also won eight draws, while Holden Charboneau scooped three ground balls and caused two turnovers. In goal for the Griffins, Josh Miller stopped 11 shots.

Seton Hill returns home for their next game, as they will open G-MAC play when they host Wheeling on Tuesday. Opening draw is scheduled for 3 pm
