Griffins Win in OT in Battle of Top 20 Teams

Seton Hill made the trip to Frostburg, Maryland to meet Frostburg State in a top 20 matchup on Friday afternoon.  

The Griffins scored the game winner in overtime when Logan Gray won the faceoff and beat the Bobcat keeper to give the Griffins a 12-11 win over #16 Frostburg State.  Both teams are now 5-1 on the season.  

It was a game of runs, especially in the second half, as SHU scored the lone four goals in the third quarter before the Bobcats scored all five of the fourth quarter goals to tie the game at 11.  

Just 37 seconds into the contest, Logan Maloni put the Griffins on top.  Two straight from the Bobcats gave them a 2-1 lead with 11:35 to play in the opening quarter.  Three straight goals from the Griffins gave SHU a 4-2 advantage midway through the first quarter.  McGarity Harper, Thomas Hanulak and Zack Estabrooks scored in the 3-0 run.  FSU scored the final goal of the quarter as SHU took a 4-3 lead into the second quarter.  

Frostburg opened the scoring in the second quarter as they tied the score at four.  Goals from Harper and Maloni 36 seconds apart put SHU in front 6-4 with 10 minutes remaining in the second quarter.  Frostburg tied the score at six before Andy Davis scored with just over two minutes to play in the half as SHU took a 7-6 lead into halftime.  

The third quarter was all Seton Hill as they scored all four goals in the quarter.  Maloni scored a man up goal to open the scoring three minutes into the half.  Just over a minute later, Ryan Manbeck extended the SHU lead to 9-6.  Hanulak and Harper closed out the scoring in the quarter as the Griffins took an 11-6 lead into the fourth quarter.  

The fourth quarter was all Bobcats as they scored all five goals to send the contest to overtime.  They opened the scoring with a man up goal and scored the game tying goal with 1:44 to play in regulation.  SHU was able to keep the Bobcats off the scoreboard over the final 1:44 as they were able to kill a man up situation.  

In overtime, Gray won the faceoff, picked up the ground ball and headed straight for cage, beating the Bobcat keeper with a shot and giving SHU the 12-11 victory.  Gray's goal was just five seconds into overtime.  

Frostburg held a 51-29 advantage in shots and a 26-18 advantage in shots on goal.  SHU won the ground ball battle by a 40-32 margin.  The Griffins were able to kill of eight of the ten Bobcat man up opportunities.  Faceoffs were 12-12.  

Maloni paced the SHU offense with five points on three goals and two assists.  Harper also scored three times.  Hanulak finished with two goals.  Manbeck added a goal and two assists.  Kevin Mo recorded a season high 15 saves to record the win.  

Both teams will meet again next Saturday in Greensburg.  Faceoff is set for 3 PM.
