Griffins Roll in Home Opener Over Walsh

The #3 ranked Seton Hill men's lacrosse team opened their home portion of the season in style by cruising to a 21-5 victory over visiting Walsh.  The Griffins improve to 2-0 on the season while the Cavaliers fall to 0-3.  

The Griffins jumped on the board first, scoring twice in the first three minutes of the contest, as Ryan Manbeck and Logan Maloni scored to put SHU in front 2-0.  After a Walsh goal, the Grifffins ran off four in a row to build a 6-1 lead with 6:32 to play in the first quarter.  Thomas Hanulak scored twice in the run and Manbeck and Zack Estabrooks added a goal during the run.  SHU led 6-2 after the first quarter of action.  

SHU scored four times to open the second quarter and built a 10-2 lead late in the quarter.  Maloni scored twice and Manbeck and Hanulak scored to push the Griffins advantage to eight.  Walsh scored the final goal of the half to cut the lead to 10-3 at the half.  

The teams traded goals to open the second half before SHU scored the final four goals of the quarter to take a 15-4 lead into the fourth quarter.  Manbeck scored twice with McGarity Harper, Peyton Gensler and Estabrooks scoring the other three goals.  

Gensler and Manbeck scored to open the fourth quarter before a Walsh tally trimmed the lead to 17-5.  Robert Hofseth scored a man up goal and Layne Harich followed with his first collegiate goal.  Sammy Thomolaris scored his first Seton Hill goal and Jeremy Sforzo ended the scoring in the contest.  

Manbeck paced the offense with six goals and two assists.  Maloni also scored eight points on three goals and five assists.  Hanulak finished the game with three goals.  Estabrooks and Gensler each scored twice with Estabrooks adding an assist.  Logan Gray won 19 of 24 faceoffs.  Kevin Mo gave up four goals while making five saves in 46 minutes to earn his second win of the season.  Josh Miller added four saves in relief.  

SHU outshot the Cavaliers 55-21.  The Griffins won 21 of 30 faceoffs and were 2-2 in man up opportunities.

SHU returns to action and opens G-MAC play on Tuesday afternoon when they host Davis & Elkins.
