Seton Hill made the short trip down I-70 to California (PA) for a PSAC West contest on Saturday afternoon at the Phillipsburg Soccer Complex.
SHU scored a late goal to trim the lead to 2-1 but the comeback bid fell short in a 2-1 loss to the Vulcans. SHU falls to 4-5 overall and 4-3 in PSAC West play while the Vulcans improve to 3-5 overall and 2-5 in PSAC play.
The early portion of the game started off slow with neither team able to take control of the contest. The Vulcans got on the scoreboard first in the 22nd minute to take a 1-0 lead on a shot from just outside of the 18 yard box into the top half of the net. Cal carried the 1-0 lead into the halftime break. Cal outshot the Griffins 10-4 in the first half.Â
Elyza Pilatowski-Herzing made six saves in the half.Â
Just over two minutes into the second half, the Vulcans increased their lead to 2-0 with a shot placed into the top portion of the net. The Griffins finally began to get their legs in the final ten minutes of the contest. With less than seven minutes to play,
Katie Kimmich laid off a pass for
Italia Biondi and Biondi placed the ball into the left hand side of the net to trim the CalU lead to 2-1.Â
Pilatowski-Herzing finished with 8 saves for the Griffins.Â
SHU continues PSAC West play on Wednesday when they host Edinboro.Â
