Griffins Down NYIT, 13-7

GREENSBURG, PA - Adam Reimer and Logan Maloni botch had two goals and two assists as Seton Hill University rolled past New York Institute of Technology, 13-7, at Dick's Sporting Goods Field on Saturday afternoon. 

Seton Hill improves to 4-1 overall while NYIT falls to just 2-4 on the year. The Griffins have now taken three straight the Bears, including four out of the last five games against NYIT. Today's game marked the largest margin of victory (6) for Seton Hill against NYIT.

Adam Reimer put SHU on the board first with an unassisted goal at 11:33 in the first quarter. Jay Scerbo followed that up by winning the ensuing face off and going straight to the goal at the other end to give SHU a 2-0 lead. Back-to-back goals from NYIT tied the game at 2-2, but Seton Hill would rattle off four unanswered goals that spanned two quarters and culminated with a last-second goal in the second quarter that put Seton Hill ahead, 6-2. Jack Moran scored three goals in during the run with Logan Maloni adding a goal. 

The Bear's started off the second half strong with a goal by Innamoratoat the 13:51 mark, but SHU's Brett Craig scored an unassisted goal less than 20 seconds later to make the score 7-3. LeRoy Halftown scored back-to-back goals for NYIT to cut the SHU lead to just two, 7-5, with 10:51 to go in the 3rd. However, goals by Collin Mitchell (9:58), Sean Stanners (7:07), and Reimer (3:13) gave SHU their largest lead of the game, 10-5. That would prove to be enough as the Griffins cruised to the 13-7 win. 

For the game, NYIT outshot Seton Hill 40-38, but SHU held a 25-20 advantage in shots on goal. NYIT committed 14 turnovers compared to 11 for SHU. Both teams were 19-for-20 in clears. SHU grabbed 32 ground balls and won 15 face offs. SHU's Max Eismann had a game-high 13 saves in the win.

The Griffins will take on Wheeling Jesuit University in their first Great Midwest Athletic Conference matchup of the season on Wednseday, March 14th at 4:00 PM.
