Seton Hill traveled to Slippery Rock to battle the Rock in PSAC West action on Saturday afternoon. The Griffins used a 22-11 advantage in the third quarter to break open a tight game and coasted to a 75-65 road win. SHU is now 17-6 on the season and 12-5 in PSAC west play.
Slippery Rock took a 6-5 lead at the first media timeout as both teams struggled from the field in the early part of the contest. Six straight points from
Jenna Kaufman and a three pointer from
Cheyenne Trest gave SHU a 14-10 lead forcing a Rock timeout at the 2:17 mark. The Griffins took a 15-14 lead into the second quarter.
At the second quarter media timeout the Griffins trailed the Rock 25-24. The Griffins then went on an 8-0 run to on a basket from
Alexandra Hay and back to back threes from Trest and
Kelly Weeks to take a 32-25 lead with 3:20 to play in the half. From that point to the half, the Rock outscored the Griffins 11-1 to take a 36-33 lead at the break.
Five straight points from Trest including a three pointer cut the Rock's lead to 43-42 with just under five minutes to play. The Rock led 43-35 with 6:30 to play in the quarter. A lay-in from Hay and three free throws from Trest pushed the lead for the Griffins to 47-43 with 2:41 to play in the quarter. Back to back threes from Hay and
Halie Torris gave SHU a 55-47 advantage heading to the fourth quarter.
Six straight points from Kaufman and a three from Trest pushed the Griffins lead to 67-52 with just under six minutes to play in the game. Another three from Trest put the game away for the Griffins.
Seton Hill made 12 three pointers in the game while making 11 two point field goals.
Cheyenne Trest leads three Griffins in double figures with 22 points. Alex Hay finishes with 17 points and
Jenna Kaufman adds 15 points.
Seton Hill will return to action on Wednesday night when they host Edinboro.
