Seton Hill traveled to Indiana (PA) to take on the top seed Crimson Hawks in their first ever PSAC Quarterfinal appearance. The Griffins started off the game cold from the floor and could not recover in a 67-52 loss. SHU is now 20-10 on the season.
The Griffins must now await their fate in the NCAA Atlantic Regional. SHU is ranked eighth in this week's rankings. The top eight seeds make the NCAA Regional. The pairings will be announced on Sunday evening.
IUP took a quick 6-0 lead over the Griffins just over two minutes into the contest, forcing the Griffins into an early timeout. It took the Griffins 6:45 to hit their first field goal, a basket from
Katie Nolan than cut the lead to 13-4. The Griffins used a 6-0 run at the end of the quarter on threes from
Halie Torris and
Alexandra Hay to cut the lead to 17-12.
IUP opened the second quarter on a 7-0 run to take a 24-12 lead early in the second. The Griffins hit their first field goal of the second quarter on a three pointer from
Cheyenne Trest at the 4:35 mark to cut the Crimson Hawk lead to 24-16 at the media timeout. After a Nolan bucket, IUP went on a 9-0 run forcing another SHU timeout with 1:41 left in the half. The Crimson Hawks led 35-21 at the half.
SHU got five points from
Jenna Kaufman in the early part of the third quarter but IUP was able to extend their lead to 46-28 with six minutes remaining in the half. The Griffins ended the quarter on a 12-5 run to cut the Crimson Hawks lead to 51-40 after three quarters of action.
Seton Hill got back to within six at 52-46 with 6:15 to play in the contest. Baskets from Nolan and
Hannah Laslo and two free throws from Kaufman cut into the lead. A three from
Lindsey Mifsud cut the lead to 57-49 with 4:55 to play. IUP hit four straight free throws to push their lead to 63-49 with just over three minutes remaining.
Cheyenne Trest led the Griffins with 10 points.
Jenna Kaufman added 9 points.
