Men's Lacrosse Holds Off Roberts Wesleyan, 18-12

GREENSBURG, Pa. - Seton Hill University used a big 10-3 first-half advantage to hold off Roberts Wesleyan, 18-12, in non-conference men's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon at Dick's Sporting Goods Field in Greensburg.

The Griffins improve to 2-1 on the season. Roberts Wesleyan suffers their first lost of the young season and drops to 3-1 on the year.

Seton Hill scored four goals in the first and six more in the second to take a commanding 10-3 lead going into the half. The Griffins pelted the RWC goalies with a total of 36 shots in the first two quarters (24 in the second). In the third, the Griffins increased their advantage to 13-4 with 7:22 remaining, but Roberts Wesleyan would outscored Seton Hill by a 4-2 margin and Seton Hill led, 15-8, heading in the fourth. In the fourth, Roberts Wesleyan scored less than a minute into play, but the Griffins responded with back-to-back goals by Hofseth to push the advantage to 17-9 with 8:03 remaining. RWC would score three more, but the Griffins held on for the 18-12 win. 

Jack Moran scored game-highs in goals (4) and assists (3) to lead the Griffins. John Hofseth, John Miller, and Collin Mitchell each added three more goals apiece. Nick Neferis, Adam Reimer, Zack Rusch, Zack Estabrooks, and Marshall Case all came away with goals in the win. 

For the game, Seton Hill outshot Roberts Wesleyan, 59-23 (34-20 on goal). Robers Wesleyan had 18 turnovers compared to Seton Hill's 15. SHU was 22-for-24 in clears. Roberts Wesleyan won the face off battles, 17-15. Seton Hill's Max Eismann had eight saves in the win, while Mackey Brennan had 13 saves in the loss.

Seton Hill returns to action on March 3rd when they travel to Manchestern, NH to take on Saint Anselm College. That game is set for a 12:00 PM start.
