Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

#3 Lenoir-Rhine Rallies for Double OT Victory Over the Griffins

For the second consecutive week, the Griffin men's lacrosse team battled a top 15 team.  This Saturday the Griffins traveled to Hickory, NC to take on third ranked Lenoir-Rhyne.  Lenoir-Rhyne knocked off #1 ranked Limestone last week.

Seton Hill built a 9-5 advantage early in the third period but were outscored 8-4 over the final twenty eight minutes to send the game into overtime.  Neither team scored in the first overtime period but the Bears scored 43 seconds into the second overtime period for a come from behind 14-13 win.  SHU drops to 1-1 on the season while the Bears improved to 3-0.

The teams exchanged goals over the first half of the first period with Zack Rusch and Sean Stanners scoring for the Griffins.  With the score tied at two, SHU scored the next three goals of the quarter, one each by Rusch, Jack Moran and Logan Maloni, to take a 5-2 lead.  The Bears scored the final goal of the half and trailed 5-3 heading into the second quarter.

Maloni opened the scoring in the second quarter to push the advantage back to three goals.  After a Lenoir-Rhyne goal, Stanners and Rusch scored back to back to give SHU an 8-4 lead with 3:13 left in the half.  The Bears scored the final goal of the quarter to cut the Griffins lead to 8-5 at the half.

John Miller scored 1:08 into the third period to give SHU a 9-5 lead early in the third quarter.  The Bears scored three of the final four goals in the third quarter to cut the Griffins lead to 10-8 after three quarters of play.  Miller scored the other SHU goal in the quarter.

Adam Reimer answered a Bears goal to give SHU a 11-9 lead with 11:16 left in the quarter.  Miller's third of the game pushed the SHU lead to 12-10 with 4:49 to play in regulation.  The Bears scored twice within 17 seconds to tie the game at 12 with 3:04 to go.  Moran gave SHU a one goal advantage with 1:48 to go.  The Bears tied the score with a goal with just 35 seconds left in regulation.  The Bears won the faceoff but Max Eismann made one of his eleven saves with 10 seconds to play to send the game to overtime.

The Bears goalie made two saves in the first overtime period with Eismann making one to send the game to a second overtime period.  Eismann made two saves in the first fourty seconds of overtime but could not stop the third Bears shot as they scored the game winner 43 seconds into the second overtime period.

Rusch and Miller each scored three times and added an assist.  Moran and Stanners each added two goals and an assist.  Maloni scored twice.  Eismann finished with 11 saves.

The Griffins will play their home opener next Saturday afternoon when they host Roberts Wesleyan at noon.
