Seton Hill opened the season with a road contest at #15 Indianapolis on Saturday afternoon. SHU took a 7-1 lead after the first quarter and rolled to an 18-5 victory over the Greyhounds.
The Griffins scored the first six goals of the contest to take a 6-0 lead over the Hounds with five minutes to play in the first quarter.
Bennett Johnson scored twice and added an assist in the 6-0 run.
Jay Scerbo answered a UIndy goal with a goal seven seconds later to give the Griffins a 7-1 lead after one quarter.
SHU opened the second quarter, scoring the first three goals, one by
John Miller, one by
John Hofseth and one by
Brett Craig to lead 10-1 with 4:39 left in the half. Miller's second answered two UIndy goals to give the Griffins an 11-3 halftime lead.
Both teams exchanged goals in the third quarter with SHU holding a 13-5 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Miller's third and a goal from
Jack Moran pushed the Griffins lead to 15-5 early in the fourth quarter.
Nick Neferis and Moran added two more goals to push the lead to 17-5.
Jack Moran,
John Miller and
Bennett Johnson led the Griffins with three goals each. Johnson added two assists and Miller and Moran each added one.
Nick Neferis added two goals.
Sean Stanners added a goal and three assists.
Max Eismann made 12 saves in the win for the Griffins.
SHU will travel to Lenior-Rhyne next weekend. Lenior-Rhyne knocked off #1 Limestone on Saturday.
