Seton Hill opened their season at the PSAC/MEC Challenge in Fairmont, WV as they took on the host Falcons on the first day of the tournament. The Griffins jumped out to an early lead and never looked back in an 84-71 victory over Fairmont State.
The Griffins came out of the gates quickly as they took a 27-12 lead after one quarter of play.
Megan Marecic and
Cheyenne Trest each scored six points in the quarter. Nine Griffins scored in all in the quarter. SHU built a 12-2 lead in the first four minutes of the quarter and never looked back.
The second quarter was not much different as the Griffins built their lead to 49-27 at the half. The Griffins shot 49% from the floor and 5-8 from three point land in the half.
Fairmont State fought back in the third quarter to make it a game as they outscored the Griffins by the score of 30-17 to trim the Griffin lead to 66-57.
The Griffins were able to hold that lead throughout the fourth quarter for the season opening victory.
SHU finished the game shooting 46% from the floor. They outrebounded the Falcons by a 42-28 margin.
Cheyenne Trest led the Griffins with 19 points.
Courtney Cecere added 14 and
Megan Marecic finished with 13.
The Griffins will continue play in the tournament on Saturday when they take on Concord.
