#15 Griffins Upend #4 NYIT, 9-8

OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. - Fueled by two goals by Bennett Johnson and John Miller, the fifteenth-ranked Seton Hill University men's lacrosse team upset No. 4 New York Institute of Technology, 9-8, in non-conference action at President's Stadium in Old Westbury, N.Y. The game marks the 100th win of the program.

Seton Hill improves to 7-4 overall on the year, while NYIT falls to 10-2 for the 2017 season.

The Griffins outscored NYIT, 4-2, in the first quarter. Adam Reimer (9:52), Shane Pettke (9:00), Jack Miller (5:27), and John Miller (00:22) all scored unassisted goals in the period.

After SHU's John Hofseth scored off of a Collin Mitchell assist during a man-up situation, the Bears would score three unanswered goals tie the game up going into halftime, 5-5.

NYIT would take the lead with an early goal in the third. But, John Miller would score his second unassisted goal of the game to tie the game at 6-6.

The Griffins would regain the lead, scoring two straight in the fourth. Jack Moran's goal with 10:39 remaining followed by Bennett Johnson's goal with 8:04 to go put SHU ahead, 8-6. The Bears would answered with a goal at the 5:20 mark, but Johnson followed with his second goal of the game with just 2:55 to go to make it 9-7. The Griffins would survive a late push by the Bears en route to the 9-8 win.

For the game, Seton Hill outshot NYIT, 32-25 (22-15 on-goal). The Griffins committed 14 turnovers compared to 12 for the Bears. SHU grabbed 17 ground balls, while NYIT had 20. 

Jay Scerbo won 14 out of 20 face offs. The Griffins were just 1-for-7 in man-up opportunities. 

Seton Hill goalie, Max Eismann (2-0) came away with seven saves in the game. Alex Seltzer had 13 in the loss. 

The Griffins return to action on Saturday, April 22nd when they welcome the University of Indianapolis to Dick's Sporting Goods Field in Greensburg. That game is scheduled for a 12:00 PM start.
