Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Lakers Clip men's lacrosse, 11-7

GREENSBURG, Pa. - Bennett Johnson scored three goals and Jack Miller chipped in two, but #6 Mercyhurst defeated #10 Seton Hill University, 11-7, in Great Midwest Athletic Conference men's lacrosse action Saturday afternoon at Dick's Sporting Goods Field.

The loss drops the Griffins to 3-3 overall on the season and 1-1 in G-MAC play. Mercyhurst improves to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in the conference. 

The Griffins got on the board first when Jack Moran fed Johnson at the 10:11 mark in the first quarter. Mercyhurst tied the game at 1-1 when Kurtis Woodland assisted on a Jame Crowe goal with 3:55 to go in the first. SHU grabbed a 2-1 lead when Adam Reimer scored on an unassisted goal with just over a minute to go in the quarter.

After John Hofseth gave gave SHU a 3-1 lead off of a Bennett Johnson assist to open up the second quarter, Mercyhurst rallied back with two straight goals to tie the game at three apiece. Jack Miller would score an unassisted goal with 5:32 showing, and Johnson would score with 2:13 remaining to put Seton Hill ahead, 5-3. However, Mercyhurst's Derek Richards halted the SHU momentum, scoring with just 3 ticks on the clock to narrow the Lake deficit to just one, 5-4, before the half.

Mercyhurst would ride the momentum into the second half, scoring three unanswered goals in the third quarter and three more in the fourth to take a 10-5 lead with just 8:39 to go in the fourth. Bennett Johnson broke the scoring drought when he scored an unassisted goal at the 7:22 mark in the fourth and Jack Miller found the back of the net off of a Sean Stanners assist with 1:15 remaining, but it wasn't enough as Mercyhurst held on for the 11-7 win.

SHU's Merritt Bailey picked up the loss, grabbing eight saves while allowing all 11 goals against. Matt Wells had six saves in the win for Mercyhurst.

For the game, Mercyhurst outshot SHU, 24-24 (19-13 on-goal). SHU committed 18 turnovers compared to 10 for the Lakers. Seton Hill controlled the face off's, 13-9. 

Seton Hill will look to bounce back when the host Davis & Elkins on March 28th at 3:00 PM.
