SHU Eliminated from PSAC Tourney with 8-3 Loss; Now Await NCAA Postseason Fate

West Chester scored four times in the bottom of the first inning and the Griffins could not recover as they were eliminated from the PSAC Tourney with an 8-3 loss to West Chester in the PSAC Semifinal.  SHU is now 39-16 on the season.

The Griffins must now wait until Sunday evening to learn their NCAA postseason fate.  The NCAA will announce the NCAA postseason participants with its selection show on Sunday night.

West Chester jumped all over Griffin starter Bryce Spak in the bottom of the first inning.  They led off the game with a homer and after two walks hit a three run homer to take a 4-0 lead after one inning of action.  The Griffins got a one out single from Garret Vrbanic and he stole second but was stranded there after a strikeout and groundout.

Perry DellaValle escaped a jam in the second inning.  The first two Rams singled.  The next hitter doubled off the right center field wall but for some reason the runner from second did not get a good jump and was gunned down at the plate by Tyler Sullivan.  A groundout and strikeout looking ended the inning.

Seton Hill finally got on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth inning.  Sullivan singled to start the inning.  He moved to second on an errant pickoff throw and then to third on a wild pitch.  Sullivan scored on an RBI groundout from Sam Mattei.  The Rams added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to extend their lead to 7-1 after five innings of action.

Zac Heide leads off the top of the sixth with a bomb to left field cutting the lead to 7-2.  Fanelli followed with a double to the left center field gap.  Vrbanic reached with an infield single to put runners at first and third with one out, forcing a WCU pitching change.  The Rams reliever was able to induce a 6-4-3 double play, ending the SHU threat.

The Golden Rams got that run right back in the bottom of the sixth inning to push the lead back to six at 8-2.  Vrbanic had his fourth hit of the game in the ninth and scored when Thayne Mitrik reached on an error.

Vrbanic was 4-4 on the day while Heide added two hits including a solo homer.
