The Griffins took a break from PSAC action with a non conference game against Malone at Jackson High School on Wednesday afternoon. Seton Hill played long ball in the win as the Griffins hit nine home runs in route to a 19-9 victory over the Pioneers. SHU improves to 23-9 overall.
Seton Hill took a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first when
Chris Miller hit his first homer of the day, a two run shot that scored
Anthony Fanelli. Malone responded with four runs in the bottom of the first to take a 4-2 lead. The Pioneers added to their lead in the second inning with a solo homer. The Griffins then put a six spot on the board in the third. Fanelli led off the inning with a single.
Zac Heide doubled and Miller walked to load the bases.
Matt Malacane then cleared the bases with a grand slam, his first homer of the game. After a ground out,
Adam Ferita hit a solo homer to left field.
Ryan Wardropper then homered to give the Griffins an 8-5 lead.
Fanelli homered to lead off the top of the fourth inning. The Pioneers picked up an unearned run in the fourth that cut the SHU lead to 9-6. SHU continued to pour it on in the fifth inning.
Mark Colella homered with two outs. Wardropper and
Garret Vrbanic then had back to back doubles with Wardropper scoring on Vrbanic's hit. Fanelli then singled to drive in Vrbanic extending the SHU lead to 12-6. Vrbanic drove in Wardropper in the seventh to push the lead 13-6. Malone got two runs back in the bottom of the seventh.
Miller and Malacane went back to back to open the eighth inning. Wardropper then added a sacrifice fly to push the lead to 16-8 in the top of the eighth. Malone got a single run in the eighth inning. SHU closed out their scoring in the ninth when
Matt Malacane hit his third homer of the game, this time a three run homer.
Matt Malacane led the offense with a 4-5 performance including a double, 3 home runs and 8 RBI.
Ryan Wardropper was 4-4 with a double, homer and 2 RBI.
Anthony Fanelli and
Chris Miller each added 3 hits. Miller hit two homers and drove in 3. Fanelli drove in two runs.
Garret Vrbanic finished the game with two hits.
SHU returns to PSAC West play this weekend with a four game set against IUP. SHU will travel to IUP on Friday then host IUP on Sunday.
