Griffins Take Two From Gannon On Senior Night

GREENSBURG, Pa. - Seton Hill closed out its home schedule with a PSAC West Doubleheader against Gannon on Senior Day on Friday afternoon.  Seton Hill took game one by an 8-4 score and won game two in walk-off fashion, 3-2. 

Seton Hill improves to 35-12 overall and 19-7 in the PSAC.
 
The Griffins took a 2-0 lead in the first inning thanks to three walks.  Anthony Fanelli singled between two walks.  Chris Miller then drew a bases loaded walk.  Mark Colella followed with a sacrifice fly to increase the lead to 2-0. Seton Hill added two more runs in the fifth.  Anthony Fanelli was hit by a pitch and Matt Malacane singled.  Both scored when Miller doubled to the right center field gap. 
 
Gannon scored three times on four hits in the top of the sixth to trim the Griffins lead to 4-3.  SHU got those three runs back plus one more in the sixth.  Tyler Sullivan walked to start the inning.  He moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Sam Mattei.  Sullivan then scored on a single from Garret Vrbanic.  Fanelli then hit a line drive over the fence in center field giving SHU a 7-3 lead.  Zac Heide followed with a bomb to left to increase the lead to 8-3. 
 
Mike Bittel earned his 7th win of the season with a complete game victory. He gave up 4 runs on 8 hits while striking out 6.  He moved into third place all time in strikeouts at Seton Hill.  Fanelli led SHU with 2 hits.  He also drove in two runs.   Miller added 3 RBI.
 
SHU took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first.  Vrbanic singled and stole second.  He scored when he was running on the pitch and kept running when Heide hit a grounder to second.  Gannon took the lead with two runs in the top of the second inning. 

Matt Malacane got SHU started in the bottom of the 7th with a one-out walk. Chris Miller then singled, advancing Malacane to second. After Evan Myers came in to pinch run for Miller, Mark Colella singled up the middle, scoring Malacane and moving Myers to to second to tie the game 2-2. Aaron Previsky hit a high chopper and the Gannon third baseman went to start the double-play. However, by the time Previsky had beat out the throw to first, Myers was just a few feet from scoring and the Griffins stole the win, 3-2. Watch the video of the game-winning play HERE.

Perry DellaValle picked up his eigth win of the 2016 season. DellaValle allowed two runs on eight hits while walking one and striking out four. Mark Colella led the offense with a 3-for-3 performance at the plate. Garret Vrbanic and Chris Miller were both 1-for-3 in the game. Zac Heide, Mark Colella, and Aaron Previsky each had RBI's.
 
Seton Hill will conclude the four game set with a doubleheader at Gannonon Saturday afternoon.
