Seton Hill closed out its four game set with a PSAC West doubleheader at Slippery Rock on Sunday afternoon. SHU took game one by the score of 9-3. Slippery Rock earned the split with a 12-7 win in game two. SHU is now 33-12 on the season and 17-7 in PSAC West play. Seton Hill clinched their third straight PSAC Tournament berth with the game one win.
The Griffins got on the scoreboard in the top of the second.
Matt Malacane drew a leadoff walk. He moved to second on a single by
Chris Miller. Malacane then scored on a fielder's choice from
Tyler Sullivan giving the Griffins a 1-0 lead.
Seton Hill added four runs in the top of the third inning.
Sam Mattei led of the inning with a double.
Garret Vrbanic walked and both scored on a double from
Anthony Fanelli.
Zac Heide singled to move Fanelli to third and he scored on a squeeze play by Malacane making it 4-0.
Mark Colella knocked in Heide with an RBI groundout. SHU added another run in the fourth.
Aaron Previsky doubled and scored on a single by Vrbanic making it 6-0. The Rock scored twice in their half of the fourth inning, cutting the Griffins lead to 6-2.
The Griffins got one of those runs back in the top of the fifth inning. Malacane singled and scored when Colella singled later in the inning. The Griffins increased their lead to 9-3 in the seventh on a two RBI double from Previsky.
Tyler Morder earned the win on the mound. He worked 5.2 innings, giving up three runs on seven hits. Previsky and Malacane each added two hits in the win.
The Griffins took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first of game two. Vrbanic was hit by a pitch to lead off the game. Fanelli and Heide singled to load the bases. After a strikeout,
Chris Miller singled in a run with the second run scoring on an error. Heide then scored on a wild to give SHU a 3-0 lead. SRU got a run back in the bottom of the first inning.
SHU scored twice in the top of the third on a two run shot by Colella. It was his fourth homer of the weekend. SRU got those two runs right back in the bottom of the third inning. The Rock tied the game at five with two runs in the bottom of the fourth. SRU took the lead with four runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Seton Hill scored two run in the top of the sixth to cut the Rock's lead to 9-7.
Sam Vilk doubled in a run and Vrbanic on a sacrifice fly. Slippery Rock closed out the scoring with 3 runs in the sixth inning.
Seton Hill will be off until next weekend when they take on Gannon in their final four game set of the season.
