Seton Hill made the long trip across the midwest to #18 Indianapolis to take on the first year team in an important ECAC contest. The Griffins only scored 1 goal over the game's first 37 minutes but responded with 8 goals over the final 23 for a key 9-7 road win over the Greyhounds. SHU is now 9-3 overall and 4-2 in ECAC play.
Indy scored the first goal of the game with 3:29 left in the first quarter. That was the only goal scored in the first quarter as the Griffins held a 10-4 advantage in shots.
The Greyhounds opened the scoring six seconds into the second period on a man up goal. Two minutes later Indy increased their lead to 3-0.
Zack Rusch got the Griffins on the board with 8:42 to play in the half. Indy scored the final goal of the half with 4:51 to play and took the 4-1 lead into the halftime break.
Just over three minutes into the second half, Indy increased their lead to 5-1.
Zach Hartmann cut the lead to 5-2 with a man up goal from
Garret Howell with 8:55 left in the quarter. Hartmann scored his second of the day four minutes later on a feed from
Hunter Hayes. Indy closed out the quarter by scoring the final two goals to take a 7-3 lead into the fourth quarter.
Rusch opened the scoring just over a minute into the second half, cutting the lead to 7-4. Hartmann and
Jack Moran scored 20 seconds apart to trim the Indy lead to 7-6 with 11:27 to play. Just over a minute later
Erik Hultgren tied the game at seven. Hultgren scored his second of the day giving th Griffins their first lead of the day at 8-7 with 2:15 to play.
Sean Stanners put the game away with a goal with 33 seconds left.
Hartmann led the Griffins with 3 goals. Rusch finished with 2 goals and an assist. Hultgren added 2 goals and Hayes finished with 2 assists.
Merritt Bailey recorded 10 saves in the win. SHU will continue ECAC play next Saturday when they host Wheeling Jesuit on Senior Day.
