Seton Hill took a break from PSAC West play with a midweek doubleheader against Lock Haven in Greensburg on Wednesday afternoon. SHU took game one by a 6-4 score. The Griffins had a 2-0 lead in game two and had to score twice in the eighth and ninth inning for a 4-3 walk off win. SHU improves to 19-8 overall.
Matt Malacane led off the second inning with a single. He moved to second on a groundout. Malacane reached thid when
Mark Colella reached on an error.
Colton Carney then lined one to center field driving in Malacane to give SHU a 1-0 lead.
The Griffins added three more runs in the third inning.
Garret Vrbanic led off with a double and scored on an
Anthony Fanelli single.
Zac Heide drew a walk and both scored on a double by Malacane. Lock Haven got a run back in the top of the fourth inning. Vrbanic scored on a wild pitch in the fourth to increase the lead back to 5-1.
Malacane singled and stole second and scored on a basehit from Colella to give SHU a 6-1 lead after five innings of play. The Bald Eagles got that run back in the top of the sixth. LHU scored three times in the seventh before
Mike Bittel came on to record the final out.
Nicholas Behm earned the win and
Mike Bittel earned his first save.
Matt Malacane was 3-4 with 2 RBI.
Garret Vrbanic and
Anthony Fanelli had two hits each.
The Griffins took a 1-0 lead in game two in the second inning on a sacrifice fly by
Tyler Sullivan. Seton Hill added on in the third inning. Vrbanic led off the inning with a double and scored on a single from Malacane.
Lock Haven trimmed the lead in half in the top of the fourth. The Bald Eagles then tied the score at two with a run in the bottom of the fifth. The Bald Eagles scored the go ahead run in the top of the eighth, taking a 3-2 lead. SHU tied the game in the bottom of the eighth. Fanelli drew a leadoff walk and moved to second on a bunt from Heide. After a flyout,
Aaron Previsky singled on a 1-2 pitch to drive in Fanelli and tie the score at three.
The Griffins won the game in the bottom of the ninth when
Adam Ferita homered on a 2-1 pitch with one out as the Griffins walked off the Bald Eagles.
SHU returns to PSAC West play this weekend with a four game set against Pitt Johnstown.
