The Seton Hill baseball team continued its play at the Russ Matt Invitational in Auburndale, Florida with a matchup with Tiffin on Monday afternoon. The Griffins used the pitching arm of
Mike Bittel and the bats of
Zac Heide and
Anthony Fanelli for a 7-2 win over Tiffin. SHU is now 3-3 on the season.
Seton Hill scored two runs after two outs in the top of the first.
Chris Miller singled with two outs. Back to back doubles from
Anthony Fanelli and
Zac Heide scored the two runs to give the Griffins a 2-0 lead. SHU added two more runs in the top of the fourth.
Garret Vrbanic drew a leadoff walk. He moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from
Tyler Sullivan. Miller doubled with Vrbanic moving to third base. Vrbanic was then picked off third base for the second out of the inning. Fanelli drew a walk before Heide produced two more runs with another double.
Tiffin cut the Griffins lead in half after back to back doubles scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Seton Hill responded with three runs in the top of the seventh inning. Vrbanic led off the inning with a double. He scored on a RBI single from Sullivan. Miller singled to move Sullivan to third. Fanelli followed with an RBI double and
Mark Colella added the seventh run of the game with a sacrifice fly to right field.
Mike Bittel earned his first victory of the season. He worked seven innings. Bittel surrendered two runs on four hits while striking out 12.
Zach Martinelli and
Jesse Cooper each threw one shutout inning of relief.
Chris Miller and
Anthony Fanelli led the offense with 3 hits. Fanelli also added 2 RBIs.
Tyler Sullivan and
Zac Heide each added two hits. Heide drove in three runs.
SHU will return to the field on Tuesday morning when they take on WV Wesleyan at 11:15 am in Auburndale, FL. SHU defeated WV Wesleyan on Sunday in 10 innings 9-6.
