Seton Hill closed out its trip to Williamston, NC and the Riverside Classic with an important Atlantic Regional matchup with the Millersville Marauders. The Marauders offense exploded for 14 runs on 18 in route to a 14-5 victory. SHU falls to 1-2 on the season. Millersville improves to 5-1 on the season.
Millersville jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead with four hits in the top of the first inning. The Griffins answered with two of their own in the bottom half of the first.
Garret Vrbanic led off with a single and
Tyler Sullivan was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second.
Anthony Fanelli moved both runners up with a bunt.
Chris Miller and
Zac Heide followed with RBI singles to give the Griffins a 2-1 lead.
The Marauders exploded for six runs on six hits in the third inning, including two home runs to take a 7-2 lead. SHU got one of those runs back in the bottom of the third. SHU loaded the bases with one out and got a two out bases loaded walk from
Colton Carney to cut the lead to 7-3 but a pop out to center ended the threat. Millersville answered right back with three unearned runs in the top of the fourth to take a 10-3 lead.
Seton Hill got a solo homer from
Mark Colella in the bottom of the eighth inning to trim the lead Marauders lead to 10-4. Millersville added four runs in the ninth to increase their lead to 14-4. Colella hit his second homer of the game, another solo shot over the trees in center field, with two outs in the ninth.
Mark Colella led the offense with two homers.
Garret Vrbanic added two hits as well.
The Griffins will return to action in Auburndale, FL next weekend as part of their spring trip. SHU will take on Lewis and WV Wesleyan on Sunday.
