The Griffins took a break from PSAC play for a non conference matchup against Fairmont State on Tuesday evening. The Falcons took the first two sets but the Griffins battled back to tie the match at two. Fairmont jumped out to an 8-2 lead in the fifth and SHU could not come back, falling in five on the road. SHU drops to 15-9 overall.
SHU took an early 3-1 lead in the first set but saw Fairmont State respond to take a 15-7 lead. Fairmont continued with that momentum and won the first set by a 25-19 score.
Seton Hill again got off to a good start in the second set and led 4-1 early after kills from
Katie Wenson and
Leah Bisignani, an ace from
Mary Baich and a block from
Jessica Hanson and Bisignani. Another kill from Wenson and an ace from
Hannah Moeller increased the Griffin lead to 6-2. FSU then used a 16-3 run to take control of the set and took a 2-0 lead with a 25-13 win.
The Griffins scored the first eight points of the third set.
Maggie Murray and
Jenna Sassack each had two kills during the run. SHU led 11-4 after another kill by Wenson. Fairmont State would get no closer than five points the rest of the set and SHU cut the Falcons lead to 2-1 with a 25-16 win.
In the fourth set, Seton Hill again took the early lead with a 5-1 advantage. FSU went on a 5-0 run but the Griffins responded with a 4-0 run of their own. SHU led 18-16 late in the set. Two kills from Wenson and another from Bisignani pushed the Griffins lead to 21-17. Two Griffin attack errors tied the set at 22. A block from Bisignani and kills from Murray and Sassack gave the Griffins the set at 25-23 and tied the match at two.
The early part of the fifth belonged to the Falcons as they led 9-2. SHU could not cut into the Falcon lead and Fairmont won the match with a 15-9 win.
Katie Wenson and
Jenna Sassack each had 10 kills.
Leah Bisignani and
Jillian Livorse each added 9 kills.
Maggie Murray finished with 35 assists. Bisignani led the Griffins with 5 blocks. Livorse led with 21 digs while
Mary Baich finished with 20.
Hannah Moeller added 15.
Seton Hill returns to PSAC play on Friday evening as they host Pitt Johnstown.
