Losing Skid Reaches Five for Griffins

Seton Hill hosted Pitt Johnstown on Friday evening in a PSAC match looking to end a four game losing streak.  Things looked good for the Griffins after the second set but UPJ won the final two for a 3-1 victory over the Griffins.  SHU drops to 15-10 overall and 7-5 in PSAC play while the Mountain Cats improve to 17-7 overall and 10-2 in PSAC action. 

The Griffins hit .414 in the first set but it was not enough as the Mountain Cats took a 1-0 lead with a 25-22 first set win.  The early part of the set was tight until UPJ scored 7 of 9 points to take a 17-12 lead.  The Griffins tied the set at 18 with kills from Cassie Hausfeld and Jenna Sassack and a block from Leah Bisignani.  UPJ build their lead to 22-19 but a kill from Katie Wenson cut the lead to 23-22 but UPJ scored the final two points for the win.

Again the early part of the second set ws played tightly with neither team leading by more than two points and the set was tied at 14 midway thru the set.  SHU then scored five in a row thanks to three UPJ errors, a kill from Wenson and an ace from Bisignani.  A block from Bisignani and Hausfeld gave SHU set point and an error gave SHU the set, 25-19. 

UPJ scored the first four points of the third and led SHU 11-7.  The Griffins took the lead with five straight points with Rachel Satira, Taylor Sabol and Bisignani each getting kills during the run.  Back to back kills from Hausfeld and Satira put SHU ahead 20-18 but UPJ scored seven of the final nine points of the set to take a 2-1 lead with a 25-22 win.

SHU led early in the fourth set after a kill from Sassack and back to back blocks from Sassack and Satira gave SHU a 5-4 lead.  UPJ then went on a 5-0 and 5-1 run to take control of the set and closed out the match with a 25-20 win.

Jenna Sassack and Cassie Hausfeld each had 9 kills in the match.  Leah Bisignani and Rachel Satira finished with 7.  Maggie Murray had 18 assists while Taylor Sabol finished with 17.  Bisignani and Satira each had 7 blocks.  Hausfeld added 16 digs.  Mary Baich finished with 15.

SHU returns to action on Saturday when they host Lock Haven at 1 PM.
