Box Score The Griffin women continued nonconference play on Saturday afternoon when they traveled to Charlotte, NC to take on CIAA opponent Johnson C Smith. Seton Hill trailed by just one point at the half, but were outscored 43-32 in the second half as they dropped a 79-67 decision to the Bulls. Seton Hill is now 2-4 on the season.
Meghan Mastroianni scored four of the first five Griffins points as they took an early 5-4 lead.
Alexandra Hay followed with a three pointer as the Griffins took an 8-4 lead. Another three pointer from Hay and a free throw from
Lindsey Mifsud gave SHU a 17-13 lead with 11 minutes to play in the half. SHU took their largest lead of the contest after a jumper from
Kelly Brennan that gave SHU a 28-20 lead with just over five minutes left in the half. Johnson C Smith followed with a 10-0 run to retake a 30-28 lead. The Bulls extended the lead to 34-30 before two free throws from
Chelsea Apke and a three from Misfud gave SHU a 35-34 lead with 1:20 left in the half. Two Bull free throws gave them a 36-35 halftime lead.
The Bulls opened the second half with a 6-0 run to build their lead to seven points. They extended their lead to nine before a three from Mastroianni, a jumper from Apke and another jumper from Hay cut the lead to 49-46 with 12:54 left in the half. Over the next three minutes, the Bulls outscored the Griffins 12-2 to build a 13 point lead. The Griffins would get as close at 8 points after a jumper from
Halie Torris but the Bulls closed out the Griffins and came away with a 79-67 win.
Chelsea Apke led the Griffins with 14 points.
Meghan Mastroianni and
Alexandra Hay each finished the contest with 13 points each.
Seton Hill returns to action on Wednesday morning when they host WV Tech at 11:30 AM
