The Griffins returned to action after a long holiday break for a PSAC crossover at Kutztown on Friday afternoon. Seton Hill used an 8-0 run at the end of the first half and pulled away in the second half for a 68-56 victory. SHU improves to 7-5 on the season.
Tiara Stossel hit two three pointers in the game's first four minutes to give the Griffins the early 9-6 lead. A three pointer from
Mallory Sanner pushed the lead to 12-8 at the under 12 minute media timeout. SHU continued to score using the three and led 15-14 with 7:26 to play in the first half after a
Paige Alviani three pointer. SHU failed to hit a field goal for a seven minute stretch but an 8-8 performance from the free throw line kept the Griffins in the lead at 23-21 with 3:52 left in the half. Alviani ended the eight minute field goal drought with another three and Stossel later followed with her third three pointer and the Griffins to give SHU a 36-28 lead at the half. The Griffins ended the half on an 8-0 run. Alviani led the Griffins with 11 at the half. Stossel and
Katie Gattuso each had 9 points and Sanner finished the half with 5 points.
Both teams came out of the halftime break shooting the ball well and the Griffins were able to lead 44-38 at the first media timeout of the half. Back to back three pointers from Alviani upped the Griffins lead to 50-40 with 13:50 left in the half. After four straight from the Golden Bears, a Stossel three pushed the lead back to 53-44 with 12:03 to play in the half. Four more from Stossel gave the Griffins their largest lead of the contest at 57-44 with ten minutes remaining. A three point play from Stossel extended the lead to 62-45 with 5:34 left in the half.
Tiara Stossel led the Griffins with a double double of 21 points and 10 rebounds.
Paige Alviani added 17 points and
Katie Gattuso posted another double double of 13 points and 16 rebounds.
Mallory Sanner added 7 points.
The Griffins travel to Mansfield for another PSAC crossover on Saturday afternoon.
