The Griffin men kicked off 2014 with a PSAC crossover contest on the road at Kutztown on Friday afternoon. The Griffins opended the new year with a 71-58 victory to improve to 9-3 on the season.
Seton Hill started the game off very slow and found themselves down 11-2 at the first media timeout. The Griffins were able to cut the lead to 17-10 at the second media timeout. A three pointer from
Noah Davis and a three point play from
Max Kenyi cut the lead to 17-16 with just over nine minutes left in the half.
Oliver McGlade gave the Griffins a 21-18 lead with a three pointer at the 6:33 mark. A three from
Kameron Taylor and a layin off a steal from
Nate Perry gave the Griffins a 31-20 lead forcing a Kutztown timeout at the 3:05 mark.
Kameron Taylor and
Max Kenyi each had 8 points.
Malachi Leonard added 7 points.
Mansfield was able to trim the lead to 38-34 at the first media timeout of the second half. A three pointer from
Zach Herman and two free throws from
Malachi Leonard pushed the lead back to 43-38. Eight straight points from
Noah Davis pushed the lead to 51-44 with 12:03 to play. Kenyi drained a three pointer to push the lead back to six at 54-48 at the under eight media timeout. The Griffins were able to extend the lead to 60-52 over the next four minutes. SHU was able to put the game away at the line.
Malachi Leonard posted a double of 20 points and 16 rebounds.
Noah Davis added 15 points.
Max Kenyi added 13 points and
Kameron Taylor tossed in 10 points.
The Griffins will remain on the road as they travel to Mansfield for another PSAC crossover on Saturday afternoon.
