The Griffin women's basketball team ended a three game slide on Thursday evening with a 66-56 home victory over Alderson Broaddus. Seton Hill pulled away in the second half after the score was tied at 30 at the half. Seton Hill improves to 11-8 overall and 8-5 in WVIAC play.
Seton Hill took a quick 4-0 lead on baskets from
Clare Berenato and
Katie Gattuso. AB answered right back with two three pointers of their own to take a 6-4 lead. The rest of the first half was tightly contested with AB holding the largest lead of the half at 27-22 with 3:21 to play in the half. SHU answered with a 8-0 run on a bucket from Gattuso and back to back threes from
Tiara Stossel and
Paige Alviani. AB tied the score at 30 with a three pointer at the buzzer. There were 5 ties in the first half.
AB scored the first five points of the second half to take a 35-30 lead. Alviani drained another three followed by another Gattuso bucket tied the score at 35 with 14:44 to play. After an AB layup,
Kelly Brennan hit a three to give SHU a 38-37 lead. After another AB basket, Stossel hit two free throws to give the Griffins a 40-39 lead, a lead they would not give up for the rest of the contest. AB played the Griffins tight over the next 8 minutes with SHU being only able to push their lead to 4. Finally at the five minute mark, a Gattuso basket pushed the lead to 55-49. Seton Hill was able to close out the game at the free throw line, going 7-8 to secure the victory.
Katie Gattuso earned her 12th double double of the season, scoring 20 points and pulling down 11 rebounds.
Paige Alviani was next with 17 points. Alviani added 6 assists as well.
Tiara Stossel was the third Griffin in double figures with 10 points. Stossel added 4 steals.
Meghan Mastroianni tossed in 8 points and
Kelly Brennan scored 7 off the bench.
Seton Hill returns to the court on Saturday when they host Concord at 2 PM.
