The Griffin women's basketball team continued its hot play with an 71-61 victory over Notre Dame (OH) on Saturday. The win is the seventh in a row for squad. They improve to 7-4 as they close out the 2012 portion of the season.
The early part of the first half was played very tightly with neither team having more than a three point lead. Notre Dame held a 14-13 lead with just over ten minutes to play in the half. SHU then went on a quick 7-0 run on buckets from
Katie Gattuso and
Meghan Mastroianni and a three pointer from
Paige Alviani to take a 20-14 lead with 9:03 to play. The SHU run continued and after
Tiara Stossel hit a three the Griffins took their biggest lead of the half at 33-18 with 3:54 before the half. NDC closed out the half on a 10-2 run and the Griffins led 35-28 at the half.
Notre Dame continued to battle throughout the second half and cut the lead to 47-42 just five minutes into the half. SHU answered with another 7-0 run of their own to push the lead back to twelve. Notre Dame was able to cut the lead back to six two more times in the half but could get no closer and the Griffins ended the calendar year with a 71-61 victory.
Katie Gattuso led the Griffins with 16 points and 16 rebounds. It was her seventh double double of the season. She also added 5 assists.
Paige Alviani followed with 15 points and 6 assists.
Tiara Stossel tossed in 14 points and
Clare Berenato was the fourth Griffin in double figures with 10.
Seton Hill will be off until next Saturday when they host Wheeling Jesuit at 3 PM.
