Seton Hill began play as they hosted the SHU VB Classic in Greensburg on Friday. The Griffins played WV Wesleyan in the opening match and then took on East Stroudsburg in the second match.
The Griffins led WV Wesleyan 2-0 but the Bobcats rallied to reverse sweep the Griffins in the opening match of the day. Seton Hill responded with a 3-2 win over East Stroudsburg in the nightcap. SHU is now 6-3 overall.
SHU won the first set over WV Wesleyan in a dominant 25-16 margin. SHU then won a tighter second set by the score of 25-22 to take a 2-0 lead over the Bobcats. WV Wesleyan got back in the match with a 25-19 third set win. The Bobcats won the fourth set 25-23 and then took the fifth set by a 15-11 margin.
Catie Flohr led the Griffins with 25 kills.
Courtney Smith added 15 kills and
Maddie Stout finished with 14.
Haley Reed led the offense with 49 assists.
Savannah Schwarz led the Griffins with four blocks.
Kendyl Wagner and Stout each had 12 digs. Flohr added 11 and Reed finished with 10.
East Stroudsburg opened with a 25-16 first set win over the Griffins. SHU used an 18-3 run to close out the second set and even the match at one with a 25-18 second set win. SHU took the third set of the match by a 25-22 score to lead 2-1 in the match. The Warriors evened the match at two with a 25-15 win in the fourth set. Three straight kills from Flohr on overpasses gave the Griffins a 9-6 lead in the fifth set. SHU trailed 6-2 earlier in the set. The Griffins won the fifth set by a 15-13 score.
Flohr led the Griffins with 17 kills. Smith added 16 kills. Stout finished with nine. Reed paced the offense with 40 assists. Stout led with 22 digs. Wagner added 20. Smith finished with 15 and Reed added 10.
SHU will host Charleston (WV) on Saturday afternoon in their final matchup in the classic.
