Seton Hill returned to PSAC West play as they hosted California (PA) in a PSAC West doubleheader to start the four game set.
SHU took game one by the score of 6-1. The Griffins completed the sweep with a 14-7 win in game two. SHU is now 32-7 overall and 18-0 in the west.
The Griffins got onto the board first in the fourth inning.
Brady McGuire doubled off the third base bag to open the inning.
Owen Henne drew a four pitch walk. McGuire moved to third on a fly out from
Colin Ahr.
Jakob Haynes followed with a three run bomb to deep center field to give the Griffins a 3-0 lead.
Owen Mandler doubled to left field and scored on a two run blast from
Nate Dorinsky.
Seton Hill added on in the fifth.
Jack Whalen doubled to lead off the inning. He scored on an RBI single from McGuire as the Griffins pushed their advantage to 6-0. CalU got a run back in the top of the sixth to trim the lead to 6-1.
McGuire led the offense with two hits. Haynes added 3 RBI and Wheaton added 2 RBI.
The Griffins took advantage of a few walks to score in the third inning of game two. Whalen drew a leadoff walk. McGuire followed with a single and both runners moved up on a throwing error. Henne walked to load the bases. Ahr and Haynes each drove in runs with sacrifice flies to give SHU a 2-0 lead.
CalU got a run back in the top of the fourth inning as they cut the Griffins lead to 2-1. SHU answered back in their half of the fourth.
Gage Wheaton drew a leadoff walk. Pinch runner
Austyn Winkleblech pinch ran and moved up on a sac bunt from
Nate Simon. McGuire drove in Winkleblech with a single. Ahr added an RBI single as SHU took a 4-1 lead. Haynes drove in two with a double as the Griffins extended their lead to 6-1. The Vulcans added a run in the sixth to trim the lead to 6-2.
The Griffins responded with insurance runs in the sixth. They hit for the cycle with the first five hitters of the inning. McGuire and Henne went back to back on back to back pitches to increase the lead to 8-2. Ahr doubled, Haynes tripled and Metz singled as SHU built the lead to 10-2. Dorinsky hit a three run bomb and Henne added a RBI with a double as SHU led 14-2.
McGuire and Henne each had three hits. Haynes and Ahr added two hits.
The Griffins will conclude the four game PSAC West series with California (PA) with a doubleheader in Washington, PA on Saturday afternoon. First pitch is set for 12 PM.
