Baseball Sweeps Pair from IUP

Seton Hill began their four game PSAC West set with Indiana (PA) with a home doubleheader on Friday afternoon.  

The Griffins rallied for a 5-4 win in game one.  The Griffins then walked off the Crimson Hawks in game two by the score of 3-2.  SHU is now 19-5 overall and 6-0 in the PSAC West.   

It did not take the Crimson Hawks long to get on the scoreboard as they needed just three hitters to take a 2-0 lead.  IUP used a hit batter, double and sacrifice fly to take a lead over the Griffins.  

The Griffins responded right back in the bottom half of the inning.  Jack Whalen had a hustle double to lead off and moved to third on a wild pitch.  He scored on a ground out from Brady McGuireOwen Henne then followed with a solo homer to center to tie the score at 2.  

The Crimson Hawks retook the lead in the top of the second inning, scoring an unearned run.  IUP added another run in the third as they took a 4-2 lead.  SHU cut the lead in half in the fourth with a two out solo shot to left center from Jakob Haynes.  

SHU took its first lead in the fifth.  Mason Metz doubled to lead off the inning.  Brady Stone followed with an RBI single up the middle to tie the score at four.  Jack Whalen then reached on a bunt single with Stone moving up and scoring on a throwing error on the play as SHU took a 5-4 lead.  

Stone and Whalen each had two hits.  Luke Deschenes earned the win.  Zach Herb picked up a two out save.  

SHU broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the third inning of game two.  Heath Fetchik doubled to lead off the inning.  Stone reached on an infield single.  Whalen then tripled over the center fielders head to give SHU a 2-0 lead.  

IUP cut the lead in half in the fifth with a pair of two out hits.  IUP tied the score at two with a bit of small ball it the sixth.  They used two bunts, a hit batter and a sacrifice fly to tie the score at two.  

Whalen singled with one out in the eighth and avoided a run down to get to second.  He stole third and scored on a sacrifice fly from McGuire.  

Whalen had three hits.  Stone added two.  Mark Wechtenhiser went all 8 innings and struck out 8 in the win.  

The Griffins will travel to Shepherd for a non conference matchup on Tuesday afternoon.
