Griffins Win Key Atlantic Regional Battle

Seton Hill hosted Shippensburg on Tuesday afternoon in an important Atlantic Regional contest.

SHU rallied from 2-0 down to defeat the Raiders by the score of 4-3.  SHU is now 17-5 overall while the Raiders fall to 17-6 overall.

Shippensburg jumped out to a 2-0 lead over the Griffins in the top of the first inning on a two out, two run homer.

Seton Hill took the lead in the bottom of the third inning.  Gage Wheaton led off the inning with a double.  After a ground out, Jack Whalen doubled to score Wheaton and cut the lead to 2-1.  Whalen stole third and scored when Brady McGuire singled to tie the score at two.  McGuire then stole second and later scored on a throwing error to put the Griffins in front 3-2.

The Griffins added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning. Owen Henne singled to lead off the inning.  Nate Dorinsky doubled with one out and Henne scored from first to increase the Griffin lead to 4-2.

Ship trimmed the lead to 4-3 in the ninth and had runners on first and second with no one out.  Christian Zilli entered the game and got a strikeout and double play to end the game.

Whalen and Henne each had two hits for the Griffins.  Zachary McLean worked 6.2 innings of scoreless relief to earn the win.  He allowed just 4 hits while striking out 6.  Zilli got the final three outs for the save.

SHU will play IUP in a four game PSAC West set this weekend.
