Griffins Split PSAC West Doubleheader with CalU

Seton Hill continued PSAC West play on Sunday afternoon as they hosted California (PA) in a conference doubleheader.

CalU outslugged the Griffins 18-10 in game one of the doubleheader.  The Griffins rebounded with a 5-3 win in game two of the doubleheader.  SHU is now 9-13 overall and 2-2 in the PSAC West.

CalU jumped on the Griffins in the top of the first inning as they scored five times in the inning, the big hit being a grand slam.  SHU got one of those runs back in the bottom half of the inning.  Abby Dejidas reached on an error and later scored on a Taylor Schmitt RBI single.

The Vulcans added two more runs in the third as they increased their lead to 7-1.  SHU responded with six runs in their half of the third.  Rilie Moors led off with a double.  Dejdas followed with a single and Kassidy Wittig walked to load the bases.  Moors scored when Shelby Telegdy reached on a fielders choice.  Schmitt then cleared the bases with a double to left center that cut the CalU lead to 7-4.  Lacey Lynn, Abby Smearman and Skylah Steban each added RBIs and the Griffins tied the game at seven.

Wittig homered with one out in the fourth to give the Griffins an 8-7 lead.  The Vulcans scored three times in their half of the fifth as they took a 10-8 lead over the Griffins.  CalU added four runs in the sixth as they took a 14-8 lead.

Gabby Jaquay singled in two runs in the sixth to cut the lead to 14-10.

Lynn led the Griffins with three hits.  Schmitt added two hits and drove in four.

The Griffins took a lead in the second inning of game two.  Anna Kalkowski reached on an error.  Telegdy followed with a two run homer to put the Griffins in front 2-0.  Lynn made it back to back jacks as the Griffins extended their lead to 3-0.  Dejidas singled to knock in McKenna DeUnger who singled and put the Griffins in front 4-0.  Dejidas added an RBI double in the fourth to push the Griffin lead to 5-0.

CalU scored one in the fifth and two in the sixth to trim the lead to 5-3.

Dejidas led the offense with three hits.  Wittig added two hits.  Lynn earned the win in the circle.

The Griffins will host Slippery Rock on Friday afternoon in another PSAC West contest.
