SHU Completes Four Game Sweep of the Rock

Seton Hill continued PSAC West play on Sunday afternoon as they hosted Slippery Rock for a conference doubleheader.    

The Griffins opened the doubleheader with a 7-3 win in game one.  SHU completed the sweep with a 10-8 win in game two.  SHU is now 16-5 overall and 4-0 in the PSAC West.  

It did not take the Griffins long to get on the scoreboard in game one.  Two pitches into the contest, the Griffins led 1-0.  Jack Whalen doubled on the first pitch of the contest and Brady McGuire followed with a single on the next pitch to put the Griffins in front.  

SHU added three more runs in the fifth.  Nate Dorinsky doubled to lead off the inning.  Gage Wheaton and Whalen walked to load the bases with one out.  McGuire flew out to deep left field and two runners scored to give SHU a 4-0 lead.  Owen Henne later singled to score Whalen and extend the lead to 5-0.  

The Rock scored three times in the top of the sixth inning to trim the Griffins lead to 5-3.  SHU answered with two runs in their half of the sixth.  Joe Fiedor doubled to lead off the inning.  He scored on a wild pitch.  Later in the inning, Whalen singled to give SHU a 7-3 lead.  

Whalen and Dorinsky each had two hits for SHU.  McGuire drove in the three runs.  Sean Williams earned the win.  Zach Herb got the final four outs to earn the save.  

The Rock took advantage of three walks in the top of the first inning of game two as they took a 3-0 lead over the Griffins.  SHU answered right back in their half of the first.  Whalen singled to lead off the inning and stole second and third.  McGuire walked and Henne singled to drive in the first run.  McGuire scored on a failed pick off and Henne scored on an Ahr sacrifice fly that tied the score at three.  Later in the inning, Dorinsky scored on a single from Wheaton as SHU took a 4-3 lead.  Wheaton scored on a failed pick off to push the lead to 5-3.  

The Griffins added on in the second.  Whalen led off with a bunt base hit.  He moved to third on a perfectly executed hit and run from McGuire.  Whalen scored on a sacrifice fly from Henne.  

Slippery Rock batted around in the third inning as they took a 7-6 lead after scoring four times. The Griffins answered right back in their half of the third.  Whalen drove in a run with an infield single and Henne added two more runs with a double as the Griffins took a 9-7 lead.  

The Rock led off the fourth with a solo homer to cut the lead to 9-8.  SHU added a tenth run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the fourth.  

Whalen led the offense with three hits.  Henne added two hits and 4 RBI.  Christian Zilli threw two scoreless to earn the win.  Herb threw a perfect seventh to earn the save.  

The Griffins will host Shippensburg on Tuesday afternoon in a non conference nine inning contest.
