Griffins Defeat #19 Grand Valley

Seton Hill hosted #19 Grand Valley State on Friday afternoon in Greensburg.

The Griffins took a lead late in the first quarter and never trailed again in a 12-9 victory over the Lakers.  SHU is now 2-1 overall and the Lakers fall to 0-1.  

Grand Valley scored 44 seconds into the contest as they took an early 1-0 lead.  Mila Udovicic scored on a free position shot with 4:45 left in the first quarter as the Griffins tied the score at one.  Sydney Marusko scored with 1:15 left in the quarter to put the Griffins in front 2-1.  

Marusko then scored a pair of goals 24 seconds a part as the Griffins pushed their lead to 4-1 with 11:34 left in the first half.  Midway thru the quarter, Marusko scored on a free position shot to increase the lead to 5-1 with 7:23 to play.  The Lakers scored the final two goals of the half as they cut the Griffins lead to 5-3 at the halftime break.  

The Lakers cut the Griffin lead to 5-4 with a goal with 12:40 left in the third.  A little less than two minutes later, Udovicic scored to give SHU a 6-4 advantage.  Ruby DePalma scored back to back goals which increased the Griffins lead to 8-4 with 7:13 left in the third quarter.  Grand Valley scored a pair to trim the lead to 8-6 with 4:25 to play.  Udovicic scored with 2:36 left in the quarter as the Griffins led 9-7 after three quarters of play.  

DePalma opened the fourth quarter scoring as SHU took a 10-7 lead.  Grand Valley then cut the lead to 10-8.  Amara Forsyth and Marusko scored back to back goals as the Griffins built a 12-8 lead with 3:09 to play.  

Marusko led the Griffins with 5 goals.  Udovicic added 3 goals, 2 assists and 7 draw controls.  DePalma scored three times.  Kayla Seiler led the defense with 5 caused turnovers.  Mariah Williams added 4 caused turnovers and 5 ground balls.  Emma Zepp made four saves in the win.

SHU will travel to Lenoir Rhyne and Wingate next week as part of their spring break trip.
