The Griffins continued PSAC West play on Wednesday evening as they traveled to Indiana (PA).
Curtis scored his 1,000th career point but it was not enough as the Crimson Hawks defeated the Griffins 80-70. SHU is now 13-12 overall and 7-10 in the PSAC. IUP improves to 19-4 overall and 14-3 in the PSAC.
SHU took an early 8-6 lead after a three pointer from
Camden Brewer and a layup from
Dean Simos with 17:08 to play in the first half. IUP answered back with seven straight to take a 13-8 lead with 15:36 left in the half. The Crimson Hawks built their lead to 25-18 before the Griffins went on a 9-5 run to trim the lead to 30-27 with 6:07 left.
Brian Belade and
Brandon Coury hit layups before a
Rashaad Williams three trimmed the lead to three. The Crimson Hawks responded with four straight before
Kedrick Curtis trimmed the lead to 34-29 with 4:10 left. IUP led 37-31 at the halftime break.
IUP hit a pair of threes to open the second half but Curtis answered back with a pair of threes of his own as the Griffins cut the lead to 45-39 with 17:26 to play in the half. Brewer followed with a three as the Griffins trailed 47-42 with 16:22 left. Coury's tip in with 9:26 left cut the IUP lead to 60-55. IUP extended their lead to 64-55 before a Belade layin cut the lead back to seven with under eight minutes to play. Curtis hit a three and
Dimitrios Sklavenitis hit a pair of free throws to trim the lead to 64-62 with six minutes left. IUP then went on a 7-2 run before Curtis scored his 1,000th career point on a layup to trim the lead to 71-66 with 2:34 to play. The Crimson Hawks answered with two baskets to push the lead back to nine with under 1:30 to play.
Curtis led the Griffins with a double double of 22 points and 12 rebounds. Brewer finished with 15 points and Simos added 11.
SHU will travel to Slippery Rock on Saturday afternoon in another PSAC West contest.
