Seton Hill hosted #5 Gannon on Saturday afternoon in the McKenna Center in an important PSAC West and Atlantic Regional contest.
Gannon outscored the Griffins 23-11 in the fourth quarter as they defeated the Griffins by the score of 81-70. SHU falls to 16-6 overall and 12-4 in the PSAC while Gannon improves to 22-3 overall and 14-3 in the PSAC.
The Golden Knights got off to a fast start as they built an early 13-4 lead over the Griffins. Gannon built their lead up to as many as 14 before settling for a 22-11 lead after the first quarter.
Back to back threes from Hallie and
Helene Cowan trimmed the lead to 24-17 with 7:22 to play in the half. Layups from
Mia Kalich and
Hallie Cowan cut the lead to 31-26 with 4:07 left. Five straight points from
Helene Cowan trimmed the lead to 35-33 with 2:24 left. Gannon led 42-36 at the halftime break.
A quick 5-0 run from the Griffins, the final three from
Abby Mankins cut the Gannon lead to 1, 48-47 with 5:10 to play in the third. Gannon built their lead back to seven at 58-51. The Griffins then closed the quarter on an 8-0 run as they took a one point lead on a Kalich layup that gave them a 59-58 lead after three quarters of action.
Hallie Cowan and Kalich hit a pair of free throws in the first minute of the fourth quarter as they led 61-60. Gannon then took control of the quarter building their advantage to as many as eight. Mankins hit a three that cut the lead to 73-69 with 3:13 left but the Griffins would not get any closer.
Helene Cowan led SHU with 20 points.
Hallie Cowan tossed in 18 points. Mankins finished with 17 points. Kalich pulled down 16 rebounds.
SHU will travel to IUP on Wednesday evening.
