Seton Hill began their 2026 season with a doubleheader against Findlay in Wingate, NC on Saturday afternoon.
The Griffins opened with an 18-11 victory in game one of the doubleheader and completed the sweep with a 12-2 win in game two.
SHU jumped on Findlay for four runs in the bottom of the first inning of game one.
Jack Whalen doubled and moved to third on an
Owen Henne single.
Brady McGuire followed with a three run shot to left that gave the Griffins an early 3-0 lead. Later in the inning,
Colin Ahr, who doubled, scored on a sacrifice fly from
Owen Mandler.
Findlay got one run back in the top of the second inning. McGuire doubled to score Henne and make it 5-1 in the second. The Griffins added three more in the third. The first two unearned and the third on an RBI single from Whalen. SHU added four more in the fourth, two on a homer from
Jakob Haynes and one more on a solo shot from
Heath Fetchik.
Haynes added two more runs with a homer in the fifth as the Griffins built a 16-4 lead. Ahr and Whalen each added RBIs in the later innings.
Whalen led the offense with four hits. McGuire and Haynes each added three hits. Haynes homered twice in the win. McGuire and Fetchik also homered in the win.
Luke Deschenes went 4 innings, allowing an earned run on three hits while striking out six.
Jack Bracken earned the win working the final 3.1 innings.
The Griffins took advantage of five walks and a hit batter as they scored three times in the second inning of game two. SHU added two more in the fifth.
Mason Metz homered and Whalen singled in a run. Haynes drove in two with a homer in the sixth as SHU led 7-2.
Ahr and
Owen Mandler each added RBI singles in the 7th as the Griffins led 10-2. McGuire and Ahr added RBIs in the eighth.
Whalen had four hits to lead the Griffins in game two. Metz added two hits.
Lucas Turner,
Zach Herb and Logan McCoy worked four scoreless innings of relief.
SHU will play game three of the set on Monday at 11 AM.
