The Griffin women's basketball team returned home to host California (PA) on Wednesday evening in the McKenna Center.
Mia Kalich posted her third triple double of the season and
Shaye Bailey scored a career high as the Griffins defeated the Vulcans 111-87. SHU is now 16-5 overall and 12-3 in the PSAC while CalU falls to 10-15 overall and 6-9 in the PSAC. Â
Seton Hill got off to a great offensive start as they outscored the Vulcans 29-13 in the first quarter of action. A basket from
Hailee Ford gave SHU a 12-6 lead at the midway point of the quarter. Five straight from
Hallie Cowan and a basket from
Shaye Bailey extended the Griffins lead to 19-9 with 2:46 to play in the quarter. Back to back layups from Kalich and a basket from
Gianna Sturdivant pushed the Griffins lead to 29-13 at the end of the quarter. Â
CalU cut the Griffins lead to 15 just over two minutes into the second quarter. The Griffins responded with a 10-0 run as they extended their lead to 44-19 with 4:12 left in the half. Bailey had five points and Kalich three during the run. SHU led 56-31 at the halftime break. Â
The Griffins shot 60% from the floor in the first half while holding CalU to 32%. Â
Both teams turned up the offense in the second half as CalU outscored the Griffins 56-55 in the half. Â
SHU shot 59% from the floor in the contest while holding CalU to 48%. The Griffins forced 24 CalU turnovers which led to 31 Griffin points. Â
Bailey led the Griffins with a career high 21 points. She also added five blocks.Â
Helene Cowan added 20 points and 8 assists. Kalich posted a triple double of 19 points, 11 rebounds and 10 steals. She also added 6 assists.Â
Hallie Cowan finished with 17 points. Ford just missed a double double with 14 points and nine rebounds. Â
The Griffins will host #5 Gannon on Saturday afternoon in another PSAC West contest. Â
