The Griffins continued PSAC West play on Wednesday evening as they traveled to Pitt Johnstown.
Pitt Johnstown outscored the Griffins 54-42 in the second half in route to a 97-88 victory over the Griffins. Seton Hill falls to 13-7 overall and 7-5 in the PSAC.
The early portion of the contest was tightly played as there were three ties and three lead changes over the first five minutes of the contest. The Griffins took an 15-13 lead with 15:11 to play in the half on a
Dean Simos three pointer. UPJ answered back with eight straight to take a 21-15 lead over the Griffins. The Griffins fired back with a 10-2 run as they took a 25-23 lead just over midway through the first half.
Edir Ortiz and
Gabe Gillespie each had four points in the run. Five straight from
Rashaad Williams put the Griffins in front 32-28 with 7:41 to play in the half. Back to back threes for the Mountain Cats gave them the lead back at 38-36 with 4:21 to play. Gillespie took over in the final three minutes as he scored the final eight points for the Griffins as they took a 46-43 lead into the halftime break.
Brian Belade and
Camden Brewer his baskets to open the second half for the Griffins as they led 51-46 with 17:23 left in the second half. UPJ then went on a 14-4 run to take a 60-55 lead with 13:22 to play. Williams hit a pair of free throws to cut the lead back to three but UPJ used a 12-1 run to extend their lead to 72-58 with 8:45 to play. Six points each from Williams and Simos trimmed the Cats lead to 81-70 with 4:13 to play. Williams hit a pair of free throws and
Ben Myers added a three as the Griffins cut the lead to 85-76 with 2:29 to play. The Mountain Cats put the game away by going 7-8 from the free throw line.
Williams led the Griffins with 26 points. Gillespie added 18 points. Simos finished with 15 and Brewer also tossed in 15.
SHU will host Indiana (PA) on Saturday afternoon in another PSAC West contest.
