Griffins Defeat the Rock in PSAC West Play

The Griffins returned home as they hosted Slippery Rock in PSAC West play on Saturday afternoon in the McKenna Center.  

Seton Hill outscored the Rock in each of the four quarters as they pulled away from the Rock with a 96-75 victory.  SHU is now 13-3 overall and 9-1 in the PSAC.  

The Griffins took an early 9-5 lead over the Rock.  Slippery Rock answered back with five straight to take a 10-9 lead midway through the first quarter.  The Rock led 16-11 with 2:21 left but the Griffins closed the quarter with a 9-0 run to take a 20-16 lead.  Helene Cowan had three points in the Griffin 9-0 run.  

Two layups from Hailee Ford, a three from Helene Cowan and a basket from Mia Kalich pushed the Griffins lead to 31-19 just over two minutes into the second quarter.  The Rock battled back to within six at 41-35 with just under two minutes to play before the half.  A three point play from Kalich and five points from Hallie Cowan helped the Griffins lead 49-37 at the halftime break.  

Five straight points from Hallie Cowan extended the Griffins lead to 63-47 midway through the third.  Four points from Kalich and a Hallie Cowan basket extended the Griffins lead to 73-52 with 1:37 to play.  SHU led 75-58 after three quarters of play. 

The Griffins held a lead between 19 and 25 in the fourth quarter.  

SHU held the Rock to 42% from the floor and 28% from three point land.  SHU forced 26 Rock turnovers which led to 25 Griffin points.  

Hallie Cowan led the Griffins with 27 points.  Helene Cowan added 23 points.  Kalich finished with a double double of 22 points and 11 rebounds.  Ford added 12 points.  

SHU will head to Edinboro next Saturday for another PSAC West contest.
