Second Half Carries Griffins to PSAC West Win

Seton Hill returned home as they hosted Slippery Rock on Saturday afternoon in Greensburg, PA.

The Griffins used a huge second half as they defeated the Rock by the score of 88-62.  SHU is now 13-5 overall and 7-3 in the PSAC while the Rock falls to 13-5 overall and 6-4 in the PSAC.  SHU outscored the Rock 56-33 in the second half.

Slippery Rock took an early 7-4 lead over the Griffins less than four minutes into the first half.  A three pointer from Camden Brewer tied the score at seven.  Baskets from Dimitrios Sklavenitis and Ben Myers extended the lead to 11-7 with 14:28 to play in the first half.  The Rock then scored six straight to take a 13-11 lead.  A 6-0 Griffin run pushed the Griffins lead to 19-13 with 8:23 left.  Back to back threes from Edir Ortiz gave the Griffins a 25-17 lead with 6:52 to play.  The Rock tied the score at 27 before a three pointer from Brewer and a Kedrick Curtis layup put the Griffins in front 32-27. SHU led 32-29 at the halftime break.

The Griffins opened the second half with a quick 6-2 run in less than three minutes of play as they took a 37-31 lead.  The Rock cut the lead to 45-41 with a three pointer with 13:35 left to play.  The Griffins then put the game away with a 23-2 run over a seven minute stretch that increased their lead to 68-43 with 6:35 to play in the contest.  The Rock would get no closer than 23 points the rest of the way as the Griffins secured the win.
